I am interested in Senate Bill 82. It passed the Senate and was voted in the House Committee yesterday and passed. What will happen to it next?

S.82 was not passed by the Senate. It has been referred to the Senate subcommittee on Oversight of Government Management, the Federal Workforce, and the District of Columbia. If that committee votes to send it to be voted on by the whole body, they will vote, and if it passes there, will be sent to the House to be voted on, and then sent to the President to be signed.

Perhaps you are thinking of some other bill. You can search for bills at the site below.

Assuming that it’s already passed the House, it goes to the President’s desk. If he signs it, it becomes law. If he vetoes it or just sits on it and does nothing, then it doesn’t become law unless a 2/3 majority of both the House and Senate overrule him.

If the Senate passes a bill and then sends it over to the House of Representatives, the House will send it through committee, debate it, possibly amend it, etc. In many cases, the version passed by the House will be different that the one passed by the Senate. In that case, there will be a conference committe where they will try to negotiate a compromise on the amendments and then revote. If it passed both the Senate and the House, then it goes to the Prsident for signature or veto.
